ZIL-157 is a Soviet and Russian medium-duty off-road truck manufactured by the Plant named after. Likhachev (ZiL).
ZIL-157 has been mass-produced since 1958, mainly for the national economy and the Armed Forces of the USSR (AF). The cab from the ZIS-151 was used with minor changes. In the Armed Forces, it was subsequently replaced by ZIL-131 and Ural-375. A total of 797,934 copies of all modifications were produced. Created at the end of 1954, mass-produced from 1958 to 1991 (at ZIL itself - until 1978). In Novouralsk, the car was mass-produced until 1991, but the last copies of the model were made in 1994. The cab of the ZIL-157 has been improved to facilitate the work of the driver: it has a stove with an electric fan powered by the engine cooling system. Suspension dampers have been improved for a smoother ride.
From 1958 to 1961, the ZIL-157 was produced, from 1961 to 1978 - the ZIL-157K (in this model, the axle load distribution changed, a new gearbox, single-plate clutch, telescopic shock absorbers were used), in 1978 production was transferred to UAMZ (Ural Automobile Plant), at that time one of the branches (PO AvtoZIL) under the index ZIL-157KD. It was produced there until 1991. It was massively used on collective farms and timber industry enterprises due to its high cross-country ability, unpretentiousness and volume of the body. The ZIL-157 received special love for its simplicity and reliability in the Soviet Army, for which it was created. This basically explains its long serial production, and for a quarter of a century, simultaneously with its descendant - ZIL-131.
