The QF 2 pounder Mark II is an automatic anti-aircraft gun developed by the British concern Vickers during the First World War. One of the first automatic anti-aircraft guns in the world. Because of the characteristic sound it makes when firing, it is commonly known as "Pom-pom". Its further development was the Vickers QF 2 pounder Mark VIII anti-aircraft gun, which was widely used by the Royal Navy during the Second World War.
With the development of aviation during the First World War, the British Navy began to feel the need for short-range anti-aircraft weapons, more effective than the various versions of the Maxim machine guns used for this purpose. The designers of the Vickers company, which was the main British manufacturer of these machine guns, offered the fleet a two-pound automatic gun, which was a Vickers machine gun, but much larger. Also, Vickers assault rifles were used as ZSUs (on the chassis of an armored Pearless truck, 16 of these vehicles entered the Russian imperial army)
The automatic gun was put into service in March 1915 and was first installed on M-class destroyers.
