The Kaman HH-43 Huskie is an American multipurpose helicopter manufactured by Kaman Aircraft. Made according to the synchropter scheme. It was used from 1950 to 1970 for search and rescue operations, as well as a fire helicopter. Produced in more than ten versions. The main operators are the US Air Force and Navy. Exported to Burma, Colombia, Iran, Morocco, Thailand, Pakistan.
The helicopter has a synchropter scheme - with crossed axes of the rotors. The control of the general and cyclic pitch of the propellers was carried out by servo flaps on the blades, which made it possible to eliminate the swashplate, hydraulic amplifiers and greatly simplified the design of the propeller hub. The blades are wooden. The first helicopter models were equipped with a piston engine, later it was replaced by a gas turbine (models HH-43B and F). Equipped with a cargo-passenger cabin - in search and rescue or transport version.
The first flight of the prototype was made in 1947. Serial production - since 1950, a total of about 400 machines were produced in various modifications. The helicopter was used in search and rescue operations, including during the Vietnam War. Decommissioned in the early 1970s.
