SS troops are military formations of guard detachments (CC).
At first they were called "reserve troops of the SS". The name "SS Troops" was first used in the winter of 1939/40. During the war, these units were under the personal command of Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler. Parts of the SS troops took part both in hostilities and in the actions of the Einsatzgruppen (operational groups) that carried out genocide. At the Nuremberg trials, the SS troops were accused of war crimes. In conclusion, the tribunal declared members of the SS, including the SS troops, to be a criminal group.
The roots of the SS troops can be traced back to the guards of the headquarters of the general SS (Allgemeine-SS) in Berlin, founded on March 17, 1933, which consisted of 120 people. Also in other cities in Germany, reliable SS members were gathered into SS units and used for security purposes. These detachments (numbering 100-120 people) were later called "barracks hundreds", and then - "political units". The task of these units was initially to protect the leaders of the SS and the NSDAP. Together with the SA, they became part of the "Policeidinst" (police service) and were officially used as auxiliary police in patrolling the streets. In 1937, some of the "political units" were transformed into "Dead Head" SS units, which began to be used to guard concentration camps.
