Dornier Do 26 - German flying boat (long-range naval reconnaissance) during the Second World War. Developed by Dornier; first flew in 1938.
Crew 4 people. Armament: one 20 mm MG-151 cannon in the nose turret, one 7.9 mm MG-15 machine gun each in two side blisters behind the wing and on the lower mount behind the second redan.
The Do 26 is sometimes called "the most beautiful flying aircraft ever built". It had an all-metal construction. The fuselage was single-keel, the wings were gull-wing configurations, the outer sections were equipped with fully retractable, underwing floats, and the lower part of the hull was equipped with Dornier family side gill floats.
Its four engines, Junkers Jumo 205C two-stroke opposed-piston diesel engines, were mounted in tandem in nacelles that were located at the junction between the center section and the wing consoles. The rear engine shaft can tilt upwards by 10° during takeoff and landing to prevent contact between the three-blade propeller and create water spray in front of the propellers.
The tail unit was of conventional design, consisting of a horizontal stabilizer and a single, vertical fin from the rudder.
