Focke Achgelis Fa.223 Drache is the first serial transport helicopter. Designed by the German company Focke-Ahgelis in the late 1930s based on the Focke FA-61 helicopter.
He made his first free flight on August 3, 1940. Serial production of the Fa 223 began at the Focke-Achgelis plant in Delmenhorst in 1942. Of the 30 pre-production helicopters, the factory in Bremen managed to produce only 10 machines - the rest were destroyed during the bombing at varying degrees of readiness. In total, about 18 cars were built.
It proved to be a reliable and indispensable vehicle for transporting oversized cargo, rescue operations. The helicopter confidently transported guns, parts of bridges, V-2 missiles, and other bulky cargo that did not fit into the cockpit on an external sling. During World War II, these helicopters corrected fire, participated in transport and communications operations, and evacuated high-ranking officials.
