The air intake is a structural element of the machine, which serves to take in ambient air and directional supply to various internal systems, units and assemblies for various applications: as a coolant, oxidizer for fuel, creating a supply of compressed air, etc. Air is taken in due to the pressure created by the flow incoming air, or vacuum created, for example, during the course of a piston in a cylinder.
The air intake of an aircraft engine is a carefully designed and manufactured structure, the performance of which determines the parameters and reliability of the engine in all operating modes.
On supersonic aircraft, the air intakes are often adjustable. Various electro-hydraulic machines are used to adjust the flow area ("throat") of the air intake. Usually used deflectable vertical (Tu-22M2) or horizontal "wedge" (MiG-25), or retractable "cone" (MiG-21).
The Pitó tube is a device for measuring the total pressure of a flowing liquid (suspension) or gas. It is named after its inventor (1732), the French hydraulic engineer Henri Pitot.
The pressure (pneumometric, or full pressure tube) Pitot tube is connected to special instruments and devices. It is used to determine the relative velocity and volume flow in gas ducts and ventilation systems, complete with differential pressure gauges.
It is used as an integral part of the Prandtl tube in aviation air pressure receivers for the possibility of simultaneously determining the speed and flight altitude.
